Anyone watching the current re-run of South Pacific on BBC FOUR? Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, the recent Strange Islands episode looked into some unique fauna of the South Pacific Islands, and notably the Dingiso, which is endemic to New Guinea. One of the rarest animals on Earth, and only discovered in 1994, it is a type of tree-kangeroo, living in the forests of the Sudirman Range in Papua Province of Western New Guinea. The species was first filmed for the BBC series, involving the film crew searching the forests for many days with local Moni tribesmen.
