Arequipa city tour

Added 02 Sep 2014

The sun is shining this morning and many of us breakfast on the terrace overlooking the hotel gardens. The view is incredible, across the valley to a high snow-capped mountain. After breakfast we join our two local guides for a city tour of Arequipa. We enjoy a view over the valley and irrigated agricultural terraces and also head downtown to the main square, cathedral and Jesuit church. One of the highlights is a guided walking tour of the Santa Catalina Monastery, a huge citadel complex including cloisters, passageways, living quarters, kitchens, period furniture and a religious art collection.

Some free time to follow and quite a few guests head to our recommended café for a "light" lunch snack. Unfortunately all of us, Furlongs staff included, over-order! The light bites are really huge plates of food and we struggle to finish. Hopefully we have some space left for tonight's dinner? We are dining in a well-known restaurant, renowned for good food, especially alpaca meat. There may be another pisco sour too!
