Arles

Around 8.30am we arrived at the quayside for Tarascon. Most of the ship guests disembark for excursions but the Furlong family take it easy. We take a stroll around town. In fact we are nearly blown away by the mistral wind! Back on board we start to sail south towards Arles. The river current is strong and our captain has a difficult manoeuvre as we have to turn 180 degrees. We proceed in reverse to begin with and when safe we swing round and carry on! Very smoothly done.

Late morning Dawn and Richard invite everyone to the lounge for a drinks reception and briefing about the days ahead. Lunch follows and then an optional guided tour around the town of Arles which was once a metropolis of Roman Gaul. The Roman baths and amphitheatre are of particular note.

Our last evening on board so a Captain’s Farewell Cocktail in the lounge and a Farewell Dinner in the restaurant. Some votes of thanks to the various members of the officers and crew, and a fairly early night.
