Snow capped mountains

Following a delicious buffet breakfast at the Country Club hotel, we set out for Arequipa, which as well as being the second largest city in Peru has also been a UNESCO world heritage site since 2000, due to it’s architectural heritage. The flight from Lima to Arequipa was less than an hour and a half, and took us over the Andes, resulting in spectacular views. Arequipa is surrounded by volcanic cones, many of them snow-capped, which made for a lovely drive to our home for the next three nights, the Libertador Arequipa Hotel. We settled in with yet another Pisco Sour, leaving plenty of time to explore the surrounding park and nearby areas of the city, before a buffet dinner at the hotel, which featured our first chance to try Alpaca meat. And it was delicious!
