Boston Day One
After the ship has been cleared by customs officials, most of our group meet up on the quayside for our private Boston City Tour. We are met by “PJ” (our guide) and Dave (our driver). We first head out across the Charles River towards Cambridge, the town on the river bank opposite Boston, and home to Harvard University. South-east of Cambridge is the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From here we cross back to Boston and hear that we’ve missed the annual Marathon by just one day. Some of the roads are only just re-opening and there is a general clean-up going on, but it doesn’t prevent us from getting around. Our driver, Dave, does an excellent job. PJ takes us through the amazing Boston Public Library, and into the Boston Old South Church. It is an excellent tour and we hear about the rich history of Boston which had its beginnings in the 1630s when the Puritans established a settlement. The city has an affiliation with East Anglia and many names are recognisable as those in the counties of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.
We finish the tour downtown in Quincy’s Market, and return to the cruise port, where we say goodbye to Dave and PJ.
