Discovering Buenos Aires
We are staying at the Madero Hotel in Buenos Aires. It is a stylish and comfortable property located in a successful waterfront development called Puerto Madero. The area originally consisted of redundant docks and decaying warehouses but has been transformed in recent years into a modern and vibrant residential, office and leisure area.
This morning the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Our private coach and local guide met us and we enjoyed an introductory city tour. Our first stop is the Recoleta Cemetery where Eva Peron's mausoleum is located. We also drove along the famous 9th of July Avenue and past the famous Obelisk and the British Clock Tower. We took a walk in the Plaza de Mayo, visited the Cathedral and saw the Pink House. Our last stop was the colourful La Boca neighbourhood where there were many artisans at work and quite a few Tango dancers too!
Our guests enjoyed a free afternoon before a delicious dinner served at our hotel which included ... unlimited wine. Suffice to say everyone seemed quite happy as they took the lift to their bedrooms. Let's hope they got out at the correct floor!
It is an early start tomorrow. Tea and coffee at 5am and we are away at 5.30am. We are taking a flight south to Ushuaia to join our favourite expedition ship, MS FRAM. Blogs from now on will be Internet permitting so if there is a break in transmission, don't worry, we will be back on air as soon as possible.
