Walking around Cusco
A leisurely, 10am start today. We have two guides, Hanny and James, and we simply cross the road from our hotel to visit Koricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun. From here we stroll the narrow pathways of Cusco to visit the impressive Cathedral. We also take a look at some new excavations on a corner of the beautiful main square. Some city works recently dug up the road for maintenance and discovered substantial Inca stonework below. As a result the road is now closed while further excavations proceed. We scatter for lunch snacks and a free afternoon. Visits later apparently included the chocolate museum and watching two religious processions.
This evening we dine with a local flavour at a restaurant called Inkazuela. Owners Tom and Adela have opened the restaurant especially for us because it is usually their night off! We have a private party and typically Peruvian fayre. A cheese dip to share, is followed by Andean beef stew, and the dessert is a warm chocolate pud and ice cream. Plenty of wine and beer is provided by Richard and Dawn. A good time had by all. The only challenge is how to find our way home. Downhill we think?
