Heading for the sea
Some guests are up early again today, this time aboard sightseeing flights by Cessna aircraft, helicopter flights and a hot air balloon flight. Others take it easy and enjoy breakfast at our lodge before a relatively modest 10am departure. We’re heading for the coast today, our destination is the town of Swakopmund.
A quick stop at Solitaire on route before our transit across the Namib desert via the Kuiseb Canyon. Naturally we stop at the Tropic of Capricorn and all take photos of each other standing by the road sign. Late afternoon we hit the coast at Walvis Bay and from here we drive around 30 minutes alongside the Atlantic up to Swakopmund.
Our destination is the 100-year established Hansa Hotel, a classic and very comfortable hotel situated in the middle of town. A glass of bubbly to welcome us! Later, Richard and Dawn host a reception in the bar, before a tasty dinner in the hotel’s renowned restaurant.
