Our check-in with South African Airways at London Heathrow went smoothly. Richard and Dawn had sorted seating and printed boarding cards in advance so guests simply had to drop-off bags and proceed through security. Nice and easy. We took off just behind a huge Airbus A380 (one of the relatively new double-decker aircraft) and although we didn’t know it at the time, we followed it all the way to South Africa. We landed at Johannesburg just behind the A380 and it seemed as though our pilot did his best to race to the airport gate first. He succeeded, and we were disembarking our comfortable A340 nice and promptly!
At Joburg we connected to our onward flight to Windhoek. During this flight the crew normally distribute Namibian landing cards but on this occasion they apologised that they didn’t have any. Good job the Furlongs team had already distributed copies to all their clients! While most passengers busied themselves filling in forms on arrival at Windhoek Airport, our party breezed through immigration without a hitch.
Once luggage is retrieved from the carousel it normally has to be scanned through a machine before exiting the arrivals hall. Richard negotiates and agrees to have Dawn’s bags scanned while everyone else avoids the hassle!
Our local guide and driver are waiting to greet us and we are soon on board our privately chartered coach and heading towards town. Hotel rooms are ready early and we settle in for a relaxing afternoon.
This evening we all get together for a welcome gathering and a briefing about the days ahead. A substantial buffet dinner concludes the day!
