Magnums at noon!
Leaving Mokuti Lodge, we drive along comfortable tarmac roads via the town of Tsumeb, where we stop for fuel, and also the small town of Otavi, where we stop to stretch legs. The Furlongs team provide the Magnum Ice Creams!
Our lunch time is spent in the busy town of Otjiwarongo, and specifically the Spar Supermarket! This is a new, well-stocked food and home store, with its own café. As it happens, the café is rather busy today, apparently because teachers have been paid this morning, so they are out and about spending their wages!
From Otjiwarongo, we are less than 45 minutes from Okonjima, home of the AfriCat Foundation, and where we’ll spend our last 3-nights of the tour. As we turn off the main road we still have a 30-minute drive along sandy roads towards Okonjima Plains Camp. Richard and Dawn alert everyone to keep eyes open for wildlife. Uanee spots a very large Black Mamba disappearing into the bush!
The Okonjima Team are ready and waiting at the Plains Camp Reception. We are warmly welcomed. Iced tea is served, plus the traditional Okonjima afternoon tea and cakes, which are rather tasty. Room keys are distributed and by the time we head off to our lovely accommodations, all our luggage has been delivered. Let’s settle in! All the rooms overlook the Okonjima Plains. The views are tremendous and the wildlife is busy walking by our bedroom windows …. Oryx, Springbok and families of Warthogs. The bedrooms are rather super too!
This evening Dawn and Richard host a drinks reception before we enjoy a wonderful first Okonjima dinner.
