Oysters and bubbly!

We wake up to a very misty morning, although this lifts by the time we’ve had our breakfast. Today we drive back south to Walvis Bay, to embark our privately chartered catamaran, called Silversand. No sooner are we on board and casting off, a large seal joins us on deck. And some pelicans too! Our local host on board is Joe. He knows a thing or two about the area, the wildlife, and the country too. He keeps us entertained as we spot a couple of dolphins in the distance and visit the seal colony along the peninsula, which is a spit of sand separating the huge Walvis Bay harbour and the sea. The sand spit is growing, and a lighthouse that was built at the end of the peninsula, is now well “inland”.

We’re aboard Silversand for over 3 hours, and we have some nice refreshments, including the freshest and most delightful oysters - unlike any you may eat elsewhere in the world! There are plenty of other snacks and cream cakes too, plus rather a lot of bubbly! Heading back to Swakopmund for a free afternoon, there’s a definite jolly atmosphere on board our coach.

Free time to shop this afternoon. Richard is concerned and has to lie down. Dawn (and plenty of other guests, do the shopping).

Our feature Hansa Hotel a-la-carte dinner this evening, much-enjoyed by all.
