Remy Martin Cognac
Having returned from Patiras Island to moor at Pauillac last night, we now sail to Blaye. On arrival we head off along a picturesque riverside drive called Route de la Corniche Fleurie. The lane is barely one vehicle wide, so we’re hoping we don’t meet another coach coming in the other direction. There is also the option to walk around Blaye Fortress, which is built on a rocky outcrop beside the Dordogne River. The citadel, plus the town walls and adjacent two forts were listed in 2008 as UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the “Fortifications of Vauban”.
After lunch on board, most of us joined the optional but included excursion to the town of Cognac for a special visit to the house of Remy Martin. Needless to say we were forced to taste some of the best cognacs! Most of us slept on the way home. Our ship had sailed from Blaye to Bourg and that’s where we embarked. This evening a wonderful Connoisseur Gala Dinner with appropriate wine pairings.
Another great day!
