The Highline

Today we are embarking our cruise ship MV Fram, but we have a free morning in New York City before we leave our hotel and head to the cruise port. Late morning, we check-out of our accommodation and drive to the High Line, a 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail. It was created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan. The weather today is decidedly cooler at around 40° but it’s not raining. We start out at the Northern End of the High Line and head downtown towards 16th Street and the Chelsea Market. By the time we reach this inside market we all need a hot drink and lunch snack. Soup is favourite! Mid-afternoon, we re-board our coach and head for Pier 88 to join our ship.

The Queen of Norway has been in New York and visiting the Fram today, and we see her leaving as we are arriving. We give the royal wave of course.

Once on board, we settle into our cabins and get ready to sail. The expedition team five some commentary as we sail pass the Statue of Liberty, and we learn that her shoe size is an incredible 879!
