Homebound

Sadly we’re homebound today. We leave Okonjima after breakfast. The wonderful staff wave us off!

We drive across the Okonjima Nature Reserve for half an hour, still spotting wildlife all the way to the main road. From here we drive south to Okahandja, which is where Uanee our guide lives. We have a few minutes in hand so we drive to the house Uanee and his wife Sylvia are building! The neighbours are obviously rather surprised to see a large coach full of tourists drive along their road. The local children come out to greet us and we hand out some juices and fruit. Uanee and Sylvia’s house is coming along nicely. The main walls and roof are up but the interior needs to be finished before we can all go and stay!

After a quick comfort stop at the nearby café we continue south. We have picnic lunches to consume and we usually stop at a civic park just north of Windhoek. After a detour due to road works we arrive at the park only to find the gates shut and a new sign stating the park is closed on a Monday and Tuesday! No entry today. We decide to continue towards the airport and look for another picnic place. About the only safe place turns out to be the police check point on the airport road!

At Windhoek Airport we say our final goodbyes to Uanee and our driver August, and we check-in for our flight to Johannesburg with the onward connection overnight to London.

We're homebound with a lot of wonderful memories of Namibia!
