Ushuaia

We're booked on an 8.30AM flight this morning so it's a fairly early start. However it could have been worse. There was a 4.30AM flight which we managed to avoid! We also collected the boarding cards yesterday so this saved time. Richard went to the airport with all the main luggage and checked this in. Our guests were able to enjoy a full rbeakfast in the hotel and then Dawn escorted our party to the airport for a simple check-in. Straight through security to join our LAN flight to Ushuaia.

Having warned our guests that no refreshments would be served on this flight, and provided the aforementioned picnic snack, the airline purser announces that a snack will be provided after all. We'll not go hungry.

On landing in Ushuaia, the expected chaos unfolds. Two flights have landed around the same time, and the one bag carousel can't cope. Having warned everyone to be careful and just let the chaos settle down, we all do just that, and eventually retrieve all our luggage. Outside the baggage area, our ship staff greet us and take care of our main luggage. The next time we'll see that is inside our cabin. Outside there are a number of local buses ready to take us on an excursion to Tierra del Fuego National Park, or transfer us downtown. For those taking the excursion, yet another surprise. A packed lunch. That's the third snack of the day.

From around 4PM we embark our ship, MV FRAM. We check-in and received our cabin keycards, start to unpack and settle in. This evening we enjoy a sumptous dinner buffet and a welcome briefing to meet some of the crew and expedition team. We're ready to begin our Antarctic Adventure. Let's head for The Drake!
