Early this morning we visit the small town of Ornes and then cross the Arctic Circle southbound. There's another Arctic Circle ceremony on the open deck, but fortunately no ice cubes or cold water this time. Just cod liver oil!
Before lunch we visit Sandnessjoen. Richard and Dawn gather everyone on the quayside for an escorted walk up the high street. Since it's Valentine's Day Richard gives Dawn a large red rose (over-size and artificial!) and we follow the rose into town. The main street isn't overly inspiring but we make it to the end and stand by the statue of a famous poet and priest, Peter Dass. On the way back we pass a "pound shop" or perhaps it's a 10-krone shop? We don't need to buy anything but this must be the cheapest shop in Norway so many of us dive in and make purchases.
Richard and Dawn slip back on board to decorate the dining tables with Valentine Day hearts, red rose serviettes and chocolates. During lunch we sail pass the Seven Sisters, a beautiful mountain range of seven peaks. Later we stop in Bronnoysund. Before dinner, guests are invited to a secret Furlongs get together in the lounge. Wine is served and general chit chat goes along well, until another ship guest appears dressed ready for a swim in the ship's outdoor pool. Needless to say we all give him much encouragement - and he takes it in very good spirit. After our get-together we head down stairs to the restaurant where we're greeted with another glass of bubbly at the start of a farewell dinner. We're not disembarking tomorrow but quite a few other ship guests are, so the farwell dinner is tonight. And very nice it is too.
