Welcome to Namibia!
Our South African Airways flight from Heathrow was very comfortable, the service and food good. Apparently the sunrise as we flew south was brilliant but sad to say some of us were snoozing! We landed in Johannesburg on time and connected to our onward flight to Windhoek. No drama, no stress! We landed at Namibia's international airport ahead of time, completed immigration formalities and collected our bags. Richard and Dawn were able to route all guests via a special exit channel thereby avoiding luggage scanning and inspection. It's who you know, you know!
We join our privately chartered coach. Our driver is called August and our trusty guide is Uanee. The drive into town in about 45 minutes. On arrival at the Windhoek Country Club we receive a warm welcome and are rooms are ready despite being early. Most of our main luggage was plastic wrapped at Heathrow so on arrival at the hotel we have scissors ready and we do a unwrap job before delivering bags to bedrooms! There is a lot of plastic wrapping to throw away but it will be recycled.
Guests enjoy a well-earned rest this afternoon while Richard and Dawn go off to shop for provisions for the days ahead. Plenty of bottles of water, some biscuits and a few travel sweets. The supermarket staff think we must be having a big party.
Dinner this evening is an Italian style buffet with a huge choice of dishes. No one goes hungry. Some birthday bubbly turns up for Nigel too.
And so to bed. Up early tomorrow!
