- Airport Service
We offer discounted airport parking and airport hotel reservations at Heathrow and other airports. Full details will be circulated to guests well in advance, but please ask if you require any information at an earlier stage.
- Deposit and Payment Terms
First deposit, due on booking is £750 per person. Two further deposits of £750 each, per person, are required, one on 1st May 2020 and one on 1st October 2020. The balance of your holiday costs is due 90 days before departure. If you book within deposit dates or within 90 days of departure, the appropriate combined deposits and/or full holiday cost is payable. A booking confirmation, receipt and ATOL certificate will be issued upon booking and receipt of your first deposit.
- Financial Protection
This flight-inclusive tour is financially protected by the ATOL scheme. When you make a booking and pay your first deposit or the full amount, you will be supplied with a Booking Confirmation and an ATOL Certificate. Please check to ensure that everything you booked is listed on these documents. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk. For further details about ATOL Certificates please visit www.atol.org.uk/ATOLCertificate.
Richard and Dawn Furlong will personally escort the tour from the UK, with an early-evening London Heathrow flight departure. At the time of publishing initial holiday details, flights are not yet in airline system range but its likely we'll fly British Airways outbound from Heathrow via Johannesburg (South Africa) to Windhoek in Namibia, and homebound from Windhoek, again via Johannesburg to Heathrow. Economy class flights are included in the tour price with an option (assuming we fly British Airways), to upgrade to World Traveller Plus enhanced economy, or Club World business class. Flight upgrades are subject to availability and applicable supplement, and normally available only on the long international sectors between the UK and Johannesburg, and not the shorter connections to and from Windhoek, which are both normally offered in economy class only. Please note, flight upgrades are strictly limited in number and therefore subject to availability at the time of your enquiry. Supplements are subject to change without notice and an upgrade cost can only be confirmed at the time of booking. Additional deposits are payable if you wish to book a flight upgrade, and additional cancellation fees are applicable if you book an upgrade and subsequently cancel or amend your holiday. Please ask for further details.
We currently anticipate the escorted outbound flight departing London Heathrow around 21:30 hours on day one, and the return flight landing at Heathrow at 07:30 on the last day of the holiday. Schedules and times are, of course, subject to change.
The approximate flight duration from Heathrow to Johannesburg is 11 hours. This is an overnight flight, and refreshments normally include a dinner service shortly after take-off and a breakfast snack prior to landing. On arrival at Johannesburg our main luggage is transferred to our onward flight, and all we do is transit with hand luggage. The flight from Johannesburg to Windhoek is approximately 3 hours in duration. At the end of the tour we fly from Windhoek back to Johannesburg (again, approximately 3 hours), and transit at Johannesburg Airport for our overnight flight back to London Heathrow (again, approximately 11 hours in duration, with a dinner and breakfast snack included).
Please note, most airlines, British Airways included, now charge extra to choose and reserve your flight seat in advance (for all classes of travel). Seat reservation fees vary depending on the class of travel and also seat availability. We anticipate offering an option to purchase advance seat reservations prior to departure if you wish. Alternatively, seat selection at no extra cost can usually be made 24 hours prior to each flight, although sometimes seat selection is not available until check-in at the airport. Please note it is not always possible to select preferred seat numbers or even adjacent seats for a couple or for friends travelling together, although advance seat reservation is normally successful.
If you wish to travel from your local UK airport and/or connect to London Heathrow, we may be able to help with alternative flight itineraries, so please ask. We are also able to help with airport hotel and parking.
Some of our Namibia destinations are remote so this tour calls for relatively good health, and many of the holiday excursions involve either walking trails, sometimes on uneven terrain, or getting into and out of our coach transport and 4x4 game viewing vehicles, so you need to be agile and fit. Naturally, it is up to you what you decide to do and if we have a scheduled walk or activity and you'd prefer to sit and read a book, that's perfectly fine! However, the more you do, the more you're likely to enjoy the tour.
Please consult your GP or local travel clinic for appropriate health information, vaccination advice and malaria precautions for Namibia. For further information on vaccination requirements, health outbreaks and general disease protection and prevention you may care to visit the websites of the NaTHNaC (National Travel Health Network and Centre) and NHS Scotland’s Fit for Travel. In addition, the UK Government Travel Aware website publishes useful travel tips, and the UK Foreign Office Travel Advice website is also essential reading.
It is a condition of booking a Furlongs Travel holiday that you have adequate travel insurance in place including, as a minimum, medical and potential repatriation expenses, and cancellation cover. We strongly recommended you have comprehensive travel insurance covering a wide range potential losses and liabilities. Prior to departure we ask for the name of your insurers, your policy certificate number, and the 24-hour assistance telephone number to enable us to offer some assistance should you need to contact your insurers while on tour. Please note, it is your responsibility to check your cover is appropriate and adequate for the tour you're booking.
Breakfasts will generally be buffet style and dinners will be a mix of served meals and buffets. Menus will vary and we deliberately highlight local specialities. There is an emphasis on game, meat and fish dishes but we will do our best to assist with special diets you may require or allergies you may have. Please ensure we are informed of special diets and allergies well before departure. It's no good asking for a special meal to be provided without warning!
The local currency is the Namibian Dollar. The Namibian dollar is fixed one-to-one to the South African Rand, which is also legal tender in Namibia. Most major credit cards and recognised travel money cards can be used at our hotels and in Namibian cash machines. Debit cards are less widely accepted.
- Passports and Visas
British nationals can enter Namibia for a holiday or private visit of up to 90 days without a visa. Before leaving for Namibia you should ensure your passport is valid for at least six months upon entry and you must have at least one completely blank page for Namibian Immigration to use. Our flights transit in Johannesburg and we pass through a passport control, but do not "enter" South Africa. If you may also wish to extend your holiday and spend time in South Africa, special passport requirements apply, so please ask for further details.
Immigration regulations for all countries may change from time to time and it is your responsibility to check requirements prior to travel.

- Singles/Twin Shares
Some of our chosen lodges and accommodations in Namibia have a limited accommodations, so rooms for sole occupancy on this tour are, regretfully, few and far between. A holiday single supplement also applies. If you are travelling alone but happy to share, please let us know because we often have single travellers willing to twin-share. Depending on our group size and out hotel and lodge capacities, it may also be possible to twin-share for part of the holiday and have a room for sole occupancy in part. Please ask if this interests you.
- Terms and Conditions
Reservations are subject to our terms and conditions. In addition, due to the non-refundable commitment to tour suppliers, if you cancel your reservation at any time after confirming your booking, a minimum 25% cancellation fee will apply, which may mean you need to pay additional fees if you’ve only paid deposits at the time you cancel.
In Namibia's capital Windhoek and some other areas, tap water is treated and deemed safe to drink, however we recommend you drink bottled water at all times.
