We anticipate check-in at approximately 09:00 hrs, so you may prefer to travel to Gatwick and stay at an airport hotel the night before departure. Special rates for accommodation and airport parking are available, please enquire.

The first deposit due on booking is £1,000 per person, with a second deposit of £1,000 per person due by 18th January 2019, and the balance due on 1st June 2019. If you book after 18th January 2019, the first two deposits are payable on booking. If you advance registered for this tour, you are eligible to pay a lower first deposit and defer part until January 2019. All monies paid to Furlongs Travel are fully protected by our Package Tour ATOL licence, number 3710.
- Financial protection
Peru 2019 is a flight-inclusive tour and 100% financially protected by the ATOL scheme. When you make a booking and pay your first deposit or the full amount, you will be supplied with a Booking Confirmation and an ATOL Certificate. Please check to ensure that everything you booked is listed on these documents. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk.
Internationally, we fly direct with British Airways, non-stop from London Gatwick to Lima, and back. The outbound flight is daytime, and the return is overnight. Flights included are economy class. Upgrades to BA's World Traveller Plus (enhanced economy) and Club World (business class) may be available subject to extra cost. Please ask for details. Final flight schedules are yet to be confirmed, but we expect to depart Gatwick on Friday 30 August 2019 on flight BA2239 at 11:55, and depart Lima on Sunday 15 September 2019 on flight BA2238 at 20:25 (arriving Gatwick at 14:45 next day, 16 September).
For our domestic flights within Peru, we intend to use the highly regarded schedule airline, LATAM (previously called LAN). These flights are short hops and will be available in economy class only. Flight times will be confirmed in due course.
Like most airlines, British Airways offer free-of-charge seat selection at check-in, which is normally 24-hours prior to departure. Seat selection at an earlier stage may be available at extra cost, please ask for details. Seat selection for the domestic Peru flights may not be possible, but each flight is of limited duration.
Please note, you will not be able to access your own flight reservations online.
- Foreign Office Travel Advice
The UK Government foreign travel advice website publishes essential travel tips and up-to-date information about travel abroad.
- Health and altitude
A trip to Peru is a relatively active holiday that calls for good health. Many of the included visits and excursions involve walking, sometimes on rocky or uneven terrain. Additionally, the itinerary includes visits to some higher altitude destinations. We take things easy to help you acclimatise, and most visitors from the UK cope with higher altitudes quite quickly. However, if you know or suspect you may be sensitive to altitude, perhaps have a heart condition, emphysema or difficulty breathing, please consult your GP for advice. Please also consult your GP or local travel clinic for appropriate health information and vaccination advice. Show them the holiday brochure and indicate the places you will be visiting. Your GP is most familiar with your personal medical history and is best qualified to determine your particular needs.
For further information you may care to visit the Travel Health Pro website, and also the NHS Scotland's Fit For Travel website. Travel Health Pro is the website comprising the travel health resources of the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC).
Richard and Dawn Furlong have visited Peru on a number of occasions, and will happily answer your questions and give unbiased advice about the tour activities and excursions.
Approximate altitudes: Lima 0-1550m, Arequipa 2335m, Machu Picchu 2430m, Sacred Valley 2900m, Cusco 3399m, Lake Titicaca 3800m.
To travel on any Furlongs holiday outside the UK, it is a condition of booking that you have adequate travel insurance including medical cover and repatriation, and we strongly recommended you have comprehensive travel insurance that also covers a wide range of risks including the costs and expenses of unexpected cancellation, illness and property and money loss. We do not arrange travel insurance but can offer contact details for a number of holiday insurance companies that you may wish to consider if you need to take out a new policy before joining one of our tours. Our list may include insurers that cover for higher value holiday bookings, older age travellers, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. Please contact us for more details. Many of our guests use Holiday Extras Insurance which is underwritten by Allianz Global Assistance. This company is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority. For further details and to obtain a quote please call Holiday Extras direct on 0800 093 5478 and quote "Furlongs Travel WZ679", or click here.
Breakfasts on tour will be buffet style and our dinners, and any lunches included, will be a buffet or a served menu. We are happy to provide vegetarian meals and can cater for most special dietary requirements and allergies, but please let us know well in advance.
The local currency in Peru is the Nuevo Sol, although US dollar cash is widely accepted. Major credit cards are useful for paying hotel sundries and for shopping at larger stores. More detailed advice about what to take will be provided in our comprehensive advance holiday information, circulated to all guests well before departure.
- Passports and visas
To visit Peru as a tourist you need a valid passport, a return flight ticket and proof of sufficient funds during your stay. Your passport should be valid for at least six months after your return date. On arrival in Peru, you must get an entry stamp in your passport, otherwise you will incur a problem when trying to leave.
